Who we are
Byproduct is a referral service operated by ONR Services (“Byproduct”, “we”, “us”), based in British Columbia, Canada. We help businesses and individuals find out whether the operational data they produce can be licensed, and we introduce qualifying applicants to buying and licensing partners. Questions about this policy or your information: deals@onrservices.chat.
What we collect
When you apply for an appraisal, we collect what you give us:
- Contact details — your name, email address and, if you provide it, a phone number.
- Business information — business name, whether you apply as a business or an individual, industry, size, region, what you are hoping to get out of it, and the description you write of your operation and its records.
- Your answers to the follow-up questions in the guided appraisal, if you consent to them.
- Any files you choose to attach.
We also collect some information automatically when you visit the site:
- Advertising attribution — which campaign and ad brought you here (UTM parameters, a Meta click identifier), the page you landed on and the referring site, stored in a first-party cookie for up to 30 days.
- Technical basics — IP address and browser information.
How we use it
- To produce your preliminary appraisal and review your application.
- To contact you about your application and, if it qualifies, to introduce you to a partner.
- To track the status of a referral with the partner it was sent to.
- To measure our advertising — we report events such as a completed application back to Meta so we can see which ads work. Where contact details are used for this, they are hashed first.
- To operate, secure and improve the service.
We do not sell your personal information.
AI processing
The guided appraisal is powered by an AI model (Anthropic’s Claude). Your application and answers are processed by the model to generate your questions, summary and preliminary appraisal, and emails from our partners about your referral may be read by the same kind of model to keep your file’s status up to date. Preliminary appraisals are automated estimates and are reviewed by a person before any referral is made. We do not use your information to train AI models.
Who we share it with
- Referral partners. If your application qualifies and we refer you, we share your application details — contact information, business information and the appraisal — with the partner we refer you to, so they can evaluate and contact you.
- Service providers that run the service for us: website and application hosting (Vercel), database hosting (Neon), email delivery and receiving (Resend), AI processing (Anthropic) and advertising measurement (Meta). Each receives only what it needs to do its job.
- Legal requirements — if we are required to by law.
Some of these providers store or process information in the United States. Where information leaves Canada, it is subject to the laws of the country it is processed in.
Cookies and advertising
We use a first-party cookie to remember which ad brought you here (kept for up to 30 days) and the Meta pixel to measure advertising. You can block or clear cookies in your browser settings, and manage how Meta uses your activity in your Meta ad preferences. The site works without cookies; only our ad measurement is affected.
Security and retention
Data is encrypted in transit, credentials and integration keys are encrypted at rest, and access to application data is restricted. We keep applications and referral records for as long as needed to operate the service, meet legal obligations and maintain a record of referrals, and we delete or de-identify information when it is no longer needed.
Your rights
Canadian privacy law (including PIPEDA and applicable provincial laws) gives you the right to ask what personal information we hold about you, to have it corrected, and to withdraw consent or ask us to delete it, subject to what we must keep by law. Email deals@onrservices.chat and we will respond within 30 days. If you are not satisfied with our response, you may contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.
Minors
The service is for business owners and working adults. It is not directed to anyone under the age of majority, and we do not knowingly collect their information.
Changes
If we change this policy, we will update this page and its date. Material changes will be noted on the site.
